Idols presenter knocks over woman in Roodepoort

A WOMAN was critically injured when she was hit by musician and Idols presenter ProVerb’s car on Wednesday in Roodepoort, paramedics said.

“ProVerb accidentally knocked down a 37-year-old Zimbabwean woman this morning,” 94.7 Highveld Stereo and M-Net said in a statement.

Netcare 911 spokesman Jeff Wicks said according to eyewitnesses the woman was halfway across the road when she was hit by the car. Paramedics found her lying in the middle of Paul Kruger Drive near the Katode Road junction.

She had suffered severe head trauma and was placed on a manual ventilator at the scene before being taken to Leratong Hospital.

ProVerb, whose real name is Tebogo Thekisho, was the driver of the car and was on his way home after his early morning radio show when the accident happened.

“I am shocked and devastated that this has happened,” ProVerb said in a statement. “It was an accident and I am giving the family and woman’s employer my full support.” He said he had gone to hospital to check on the 37-year-old Zimbabwean woman.

Ravi Naidoo, 94.7 Highveld Stereo station manager, where he is a DJ, said the station had been in constant contact with ProVerb.

“…He is shaken up, but focused on offering his full support to the family of the woman.” M-Net’s channel manager Pierre Cloete said the television station was supporting ProVerb during this time.
