IFP candidate attacked


AN Inkatha Freedom Party municipal elections candidate is in a critical condition in a Durban hospital after he was assaulted in the early hours of this morning (May 17), the party said.

“The IFP condemns this brutal attack on its candidate which has an obvious political motive and urges the SA Police Service to investigate the assault,” said IFP national organiser Albert Mncwango.

Godfrey Mahlobo, who is contesting Ward 17 of Ndwedwe Local Municipality, was allegedly assaulted in Ndwedwe.


KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Vincent Mdunge confirmed that police were investigating the incident.
