PORT Elizabeth received a welcome cash boost after a super- busy weekend, with tourism authorities estimating the city’s businesses and hospitality industry could register a turnover of more than R50-million for the period.
Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism chief executive Mandlakazi Skefile said Ironman SA was the big tourism draw-card for April and generated a massive economic injection for Nelson Mandela Bay, particularly the tourism industry.
She said Ironman SA had seen total tourism turnover of R43-million last year, and she expected it to reach R48-million this year.
Besides the Ironman main event and the corporate and kiddies’ events linked to it, several other events also rocked the city at the weekend.
