Blue Bulls player arrested for axe murders

AN EASTERN Cape rugby player is the main suspect in the grisly axe murder of three men in  Lamontville, Umbilo and Yellowwood Park.

The former  Blue Bulls and South Africa U21 rugby player was arrested on Tuesday and will today appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

The 34-year-old man played for both the Blue Bulls’ Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup teams, as well as the South African Barbarians.

The man, believed to be from Mthatha  was arrested on Tuesday — a week after the bizarre murders began in the south of Durban.

When police released information on the killings last week, they claimed that the killer may have been avenging the rape of his daughter who was infected with HIV during the ordeal.

However, police yesterday could not confirm whether the former rugby player has a daughter.
