Students boycott classes over sex for marks scandal

WALTER Sisulu University has been rocked by a sex-for-marks scandal.
The vice-chancellor, Prof Marcus Balintulo, has confirmed that investigations were under way, but declined to say how many lecturers were involved.
As many as five lecturers may be implicated.
The matter came to light after a third-year public management student at Mthatha’s Zamukulungisa campus approached the Public Protector in Mthatha three weeks ago to complain that a male lecturer refused to give her marks if she did not have sex with him.
“I have passed everything except his subject. He told me in order for me to get marks we must have sex,” she said. She had approached the Public Protector because she had exhausted all other avenues.
