PORT Elizabeth‘s Proteas cricket star and prolific Twitter user Wayne Parnell set the record straight yesterday when he tweeted: “Twitter is not banned at the CWC. It‘s only during games OBVIOUSLY so stop asking if its banned. ITS NOT.”
There was confusion about whether the International Cricket Council had banned players and team officials from tweeting during matches, or altogether, for the duration of the ICC Cricket World Cup, currently under way in India.
The ICC said the decision to ban tweeting during matches was intended to restrain the players and officials from any possible approach by match-fixers.
Allrounder Parnell, 21, certainly has not been put off, tweeting on Sunday: “Landed in Delhi but felt like OR Tambo, saw green and gold and heard vuvuzelas blowing. Home away from home!!! #Proteas.”
The Warriors player‘s enthusiasm extended to training: “Another beautiful day in Delhi today. training later.”
But it is not all work – Parnell also seems to be partying up a storm, if this tweet is anything to go by: “Got Aston Martin Music pumping on my iPod. Had to think of the mix last night @DJRogerGoode @KirstyStoRAWR Dirty Bit!!!”
And neither is it all play: “(My) deepest sympathies go out to the people who were directly or indirectly affected by the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand,” he tweeted yesterday morning.
