Bad weather forces George bound planes to land at PE airport

AIRCRAFT due to land at the George Airport have been diverted to Port Elizabeth due to bad weather, said Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) earlier today.
Acsa spokesman Colin Naidoo responded to a query from The Herald after reports from commuters described the Port Elizabeth airport as “chaos”.
Naidoo said that the delay in flights from Port Elizabeth was attributed to planes being diverted from George due to bad weather conditions.
“This is standard protocol and the pilot’s discretion to divert,” he said. “Because of the aircraft being diverted there is a backlog which will temporarily effect the schedule.”
Naidoo said that once the weather clears and conditions permissible for landing at George Airport – the schedule would go back to normal. – Gareth Wilson
