Soccer player investigated in culpable homicide

ORLANDO Pirates goalkeeper Robert Modiadie is being investigated after he allegedly knocked down and killed a two-year-old boy with his car in Protea Glen, Soweto, Gauteng police said yesterday.

“It happened on Saturday … the boy was hit by Modiadie’s car in Extension eight and died on the scene. Modiadie was taken to Protea Glen police station because the community members wanted to attack him,” spokeswoman Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo said.

She said Modiadie was not drunk at the time, and had not been tested for alcohol and drugs.

“He was not drunk, so why must we test him?” Modiadie spent a few hours in the Protea Glen police station “for his own safety” and was then released.

“He is being investigated for culpable homicide.” Khumalo did not have any more details on how the boy was killed, or if Modiadie had been speeding. – Sapa
