Athletes take on the elements

A HANDFUL of brave athletes will be taking on the elements and everything nature can throw at them in the gruelling Wild Coast Ultra trail run next week.
The event – being run for the fifth time this year – covers a distance of 270km over a six-day period, starting at the Silaka Nature Reserve near Port St Johns on Monday and ending at Nahoon Beach in East London next Saturday.
Runners will have to map their own way and cross 27 rivers along the way. They also have to carry their own water and other emergency items as there will be no support along the way.
