Thumbs up for Shisa spot and Umhlobo

Last Friday, I made my way to a brand new spot, Shisa African Cuisine, which is situated in the Port Elizabeth harbour and will have its official opening today.

I’m not really a sea person (despite living in PE, LOL!) but the view from there was breathtaking and very calming … it even brought out my romantic side!

The food, too, was to die for, especially the tripe. Skinnerbek realises tripe is not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you do appreciate good tripe then this is the place to go!
The restaurant is spacious and the deck is super-chilled. I also liked the glass walls which enable you to see outside.

Even the music was lekker and the prices, too, are affordable.

My only worry was that the parking space is on the deck – one small mistake and you could just find yourself down there in the water, especially after a few toots!

I do hope PE peeps will show Shisa their support as it adds a fun, relaxed element to our working harbour.

Last Saturday, I attended Londeka Dlamini’s birthday party in Cape Road. The music was on point but it did irk me that many of the guests arrived very late.

Bantu Mtshiselwa and Leletu Poeticsoul Mahembehlala were also there, and there were a few actresses who were clearly enjoying themselves. Actress Olwethu Mdala and the birthday girl showed us their braaiing skills; the meat was nice even though it was only dished up after 10pm and by that time a lot of people were already rather “soused”.

On Sunday, Umhlobo Wenene fm had a Khanya Gqiyazana workshop at the Boardwalk. It was a sold-out event and I was happy to see that the guests did make the effort to adhere to the dress code of hats and heels.

There were hats of every description … speaking of hats, I take mine off for the organisers since everything was well organised and on time.

I thought I would see Umhlobo’s Lulu Haarmans there as the event was named after her show, but she was not there.

Come to think of it, she has been off air for some time now.

Your Skinnerbek will have to dig a little deeper to find out what happened.

It was great to see businesswoman Bongi Siwisa showing us her slick dance moves. She was joined by Winston Ntshona’s wife, Vuyi – talk about ageing in style.

There were also those who attracted the attention of the fashion police, but I’ll let them off the hook this time.

There’s a lot on the social calendar this coming weekend – I hear Black Coffee will be in town – so let me start planning my party schedule right now!
