On Thursday 18 August 18 2016, Collegiate Girls’ High School will host a Youth Concerto Festival in its Stevenson Hall, which it believes is a first for South African schools.
The music staff at Collegiate wanted to give the girls the rare opportunity to perform one movement from a concerto, along with the school’s concert band. School band master, Paulo Putigna will be conducting the concert and has worked with both the band and soloists to prepare them.
The concert line-up includes: Botlhari Baloyi on piano, playing Alec Rowley’s Two Piano Miniature Concerto, accompanied by Mrs Gustel Agenbag.
Natasha Bakker takes to the stage on trombone and will be performing Guilmant’s Morceau Symphonique, followed by Abigail Nel singing Handel’s Verdi Prati, accompanied by the Collegiate String Orchestra.
Lauren Todd will bend the listener’s ear with Morricone’s Love Theme from Cinema Paradiso on clarinet, with Langa Mandaba following with Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe on violin.
Neruda’s Concerto in E Flat for Trumpet will be played by Grade 11 trumpeter Jenna Taylor. The evening will end with the rousing Binge Concerto for Alto Saxophone, performed by Josie McClure.
Entry to the concert is free and the performance begins at 7pm.
