Andile Poswa to perform at Jazz'Afro show

Nelson Mandela Bay reggae artist Andile “Itesman” Poswa hits the stage this weekend at the Jazz’Afro Sundays show hosted by the Port Elizabeth Opera House.

The 37-year-old Zwide singer has been active in music since 1996 and has worked on a string of musical projects including his first full-length album titled Soul Connection, which he independently released in 2012.

He has also extended his creativity to the world of film as a producer and host for lifestyle show Isingqi SamaRasta (The Rhythm of Rasta), which airs on Bay TV channel 260.

Poswa says his nature landed him his stage moniker: “Ites is Jamaican slang for someone who is tenacious, someone who doesn’t give up and who has a positive spirit.

“I didn’t name myself that though, it was the people around me,” he said.

Poswa, who will be performing with his band Third Generation, describes his sound as predominantly reggae, with a mixture of different genres, and says audiences should expect to have a good time.

“People who have never been to a Itesman performance should prepare themselves to dance and enjoy good, soulful music. We promise the audience blazing fire!” the reggae artist said.

The Jazz’Afro Sundays music show, which kicked off in March this year, is on every Sunday afternoon at The Barn, the intimate theatre upstairs at the PE Opera House.

The programme, which has been host to some of the greatest talents in the metro, is designed to enhance Nelson Mandela Bay-based musical brands.

Poswa’s show is at 4pm on Sunday. Tickets are R50 and seating is limited.
