Back in college, I took a statistics class. We were asked to design a survey to test a hypothesis. I designed a test to see if astrological forecasts had statistical validity. Unfortunately, my work group didn’t see astrology as having any validity to begin with and were more interested in how people could be fooled by fake horoscopes. I’ve often wondered if something more useful could have been proven with a more open-minded group. Steve Hi Steve, Too often, there’s a refusal to look properly when people convince themselves that there will be nothing to see!
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
‘Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Zip-A-Dee-A, My oh my, what a wonderful day Plenty of sunshine heading my way…’ So goes Ray Gilbert’s Disney song. It sounds like nonsense, unless you happen to be in a very good mood, at which point, every word begins to make perfect sense. Some even say that if you are not at all elated or excited by life, this is a song that can be used like an Eastern meditation mantra, to ‘summon’ the very spirit you lack. One way or another such a feeling is not as far from you now as you may fear.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
You can’t rise above every irritation. But you can try. In trying, you can go a surprisingly long way in the right direction. We must, of course, be careful not to confuse transcendence with suppression. We don’t want to end up holding back our feelings till they develop steam in the pressure cooker of our heart and then cause our inner lid to blow. We must be higher, wiser, calmer, more mindful and more enlightened. Or, at least, we must try. And with those words, I refer you back to the third sentence above!
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Some people put much effort and energy into trying to turn back time. Hence the popularity of radio stations that only play the hits of yesteryear. Or hair dye. Or anti-ageing cream. Such plans and policies can be surprisingly successful. Not only can we fool ourselves into thinking nothing has changed, we can persuade others to join us in a make-believe realm where the pages of the calendar never turn. Yet progress has brought many good things into your life too. Today, you can count some of those blessings.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
Even if we aren’t entirely happy with a situation, we tend to feel just a little better about it if we can feel sure that we know what’s causing it and how it has come about. This isn’t just so we know who to blame. It is also because information equates to a kind of knowledge and knowledge is power. You may feel now that you’ve got no ability to alter an essential set of circumstances. But in time, if you’re determined and patient, you’ll either gain the insight you lack or the opportunity you need… or both!
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
This weekend brings the annual Full Moon in Leo. That, if you stop to think about it, explains everything! You’re not so sure it does? Then perhaps you haven’t stopped and thought for long enough! Stop and think a little longer. Or don’t stop. Carry on. And, if you prefer not to think, don’t think. Just proceed without further thought – and without further fear. Whether you’re now following a careful plan or feel you’re careering crazily down a ski slope of surprises, you’re heading in the right direction – and soon, you’ll see why!
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
There may be some limit to our ability to empathise with one another as closely as we might wish but we humans certainly seem able to learn from the experience of others. We watch folk run into trouble, we nod knowingly when we reckon we understand where they have gone wrong and we vow to ourselves that such errors will never be repeated by us! Or at least, we do unless we have persuaded ourselves that extenuating circumstances apply in our case. You’re not talking yourself into that idea today are you?
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
Some people say there’s no such thing as the Spaghetti Monster. How can they be sure? Aren’t they just peddling false hope when they tell us such things in their reassuringly adult tones of voice? Have they properly looked into every single packet of pasta on the whole planet? The monster could be out there, hiding somewhere! Today’s news is good, regardless of whether you are or are not willing to hear it. But it will be a whole lot better and will have many more positive implications if you listen and trust!
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
The great unknown sounds so inviting. Or, at least, it does as long as we can feel sure it has checks and balances. It will have been safety-checked, won’t it? Teams of responsible operatives have investigated it, haven’t they? Well, if they have, we must ask how unknown this unknown truly is? That’s not such a silly question. If you are to profit from the emergence of today’s subtle opportunity, remember that what’s an unknown quantity to you may well represent highly familiar territory to someone else!
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
People being trained to work in sales soon learn that most people are more easily influenced than they realise. We give out subtle signs and we look out for them too. We respond to these unconsciously, unless we are alert. Even then, if someone is gently but firmly assertive, it is very hard for us to resist a suggestion to go in a particular direction. I say this to you, now, not to warn you… but to remind you that if you’re strong and sure when you speak to others today, it will be hard for you not to get what you seek.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Is it ever possible to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear? Perhaps not. But a clever craftsperson might turn it into a suede pocket. The ability to improvise is an essential component of intelligence. If we wish to prove ourselves capable, we must adapt to changing circumstances. As you now look at a problem that seemingly can’t be solved in any obvious way, consider which rules may be irrelevant. Are all requirements essential? There is room, somewhere in your world, for a change of plan today.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
We are all victims of protocol. We all encounter situations in life where it is patently obvious that something needs to happen and, preferably, quickly. But before this can occur, that must take place first. And even before that, some other official procedure must first be adhered to. Today’s challenge involves deciding whether you feel justified in making a judgement call. In defying a rule, you will either earn reward or an admonishment. But if you know you are doing the right thing, how can there be a choice?
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
They say, ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.’ But what kind of people say this? And what’s their problem? Do they genuinely believe that every contingency can be anticipated and there is no such thing as a spontaneous event that requires a sudden, instinctive response? Those who fail to plan are presumably planning instead – on their hearts rightly leading them where their heads could never go in a million years of strategic meetings and consultations. Trust what seems like a whim today.
