Troskie leads organ recital

THE Feather Market Organ Society presents its annual Christmas concert tomorrow at 1pm with a 75-minute programme of seasonal music. “This is a great opportunity for all local music lovers and holiday visitors to enjoy a varied selection of beautiful Christmas music, it is always a pleasant family concert with a programme full of variation and music which is easy to listen to,” said Prof Albert Troskie, noting highlights which include:

  • The impressive grand organ will be played by organists Sulani Heunis, Devandré Boonzaaier, Albert Troskie, Arnu Oelofse and Romano Jonathan;
  • Pretoria opera tenor Dewald von Solms is the guest artist and will sing favourite, including,
  • A mass choir of more than 100 voices will sing three works, including the well-known by Schneider, and also sing with Von Solms;
  • The well-known Arbitrio and Despatch Male Voice Choirs will join forces for
  • Accomplished oboe and saxophone player André Visser will play, among others,
  • The choir of Sunshine Special School will also perform two works; and
  • The brass band of Uitenhage’s Rose Lane Church will also perform.

Troskie said a “large percentage” of the income would go to Uitenhage Mental Health. “Over the years, the Feather Market Organ Society has donated a total of R155 000 to charity from income received at the Christmas concerts,” he said. There is no advance booking and tickets are on sale at the door for R40 (pensioners R30, pupils R10).
