THE country’s best-loved stout will have a presence at next weekend’s much-anticipated Taste of Port Elizabeth festival, including in a chocolaty variant likely to delight drinks aficionados.
Taste of PE is at the Boardwalk Festival Lawns from next Friday to Sunday. It will showcase restaurants and producers as well as winemakers and drinks offerings, amid lively entertainment. Made with cocoa and brewed with speciality malts, Castle Milk Stout Chocolate Infused was released as a limited edition in 2014 and reintroduced earlier this year.
Guests will be treated to nachos as well as sandwiches and breads with a choice of gourmet fillings. Any of these would pair well with Milk Stout’s full-flavoured brew with its hints of toffee, butterscotch and coffee.
A DJ will deliver funky lounge music at the Friday and Saturday evening sessions. Among the many interesting pairings to look forward to at Taste are Colonial Kitchen’s mascarpone-filled dates topped with ginger marmalade and toasted almonds, to be paired with Kas Bier Weiss which has subtle banana flavours with a hint of citrus. Beer fans should also look out for craft beer company Benn Koppen, which uses a blend of local and international hops.
Entry tickets to Taste are R80 via www. itickets. co. za or R100 at the door. More info at www.tasteofpe.co.za.
