SOUTH Africans are bogged down by the headlines, says comedian Marc Lottering.
“It’s interesting who comes to comedy, and how well supported it is,” says Lottering, who is the second South African comedian called by DStv’s Box Office: The Live Series, to record an online show.
“People can choose between a magnificent, five-star play and a comedian and they come to the comedian. They are bogged down by the headlines, where we are as a country.”
Backing up Lottering’s observation is that DStv says sales from the first Box Office Live show, featuring Barry Hilton, “exceeded expectations.
It was one of the best selling shows on Box Office when it was released in February — selling more rentals than some well-known Hollywood feature films.”
Box Office is a satellite-based video-on-demand service offering DStv Premium subscribers the opportunity to rent shows, including Hollywood blockbusters, on their PVR decoders.
It is a South African first, and each show can be rented for R27, giving two days’ access to the material.
