BIG Brother Mzansi couple Mandla Hlatshwayo and girlfriend Lexie van Niekerk, who rose to notoriety after a steamy sex session on the reality show, will make a public appearance in the Bay ahead of a major music festival later this week.
The pair will be at Greenacres shopping mall today taking pictures and signing autographs for their fans. Big Brother Mzansi Season One winner, Hlatshwayo, said he was very excited about their appearance especially because it is his first visit to the Bay.
“I have never been to PE before and I am very excited about coming to PE. Today me and Lexie will be doing an activation event [public appearance] for the iRock music festival eBhayi.
“From what I have seen on TV, PE’s nightlife is different and it is more intimate.
“It is not like what we are used to in Joburg as there are a lot of fake people who want to live an extravagant life,” he said.
Hlatshwayo and Van Niekerk have their own reality show which airs on Tuesdays at 7pm on Mzansi Magic’s channel 161.
“The show started airing on March 3 because people on social networks and our fans constantly wanted to know what we were doing outside Big Brother.
“So in the show we give people an update of what we have been up to,” he said.
Hlatshwayo, who was a spaza shop owner before appearing on Big Brother, said he was busy working on his music.
He has collaborated with a number of artists but was also busy selling houses.
“After I left Big Brother, I took a month trying to figure out where to from here. I did a track with Mobi Dickson and also worked on a track with Soul Phenduka but they have not yet been released. I have got my own music which I am hoping to drop this year.
“Lexie is busy polishing her acting skills,” he said.
Hlatshwayo said he and Van Niekerk have been together for one year and two months.
“Like any other couple we have our ups and downs. The love is still there and we are trying to find ourselves outside Big Brother House,” Hlatshwayo said.
The iRock music festival will be held next Saturday April 4 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Artists like DJ Fresh, AKA, Tbo Touch, DJ Clock, Vusi Nova, Beatenberg, Busiswa, Thandiswa Mazwai, Ringo Madlingozi, Dj Dimples and many more will be on stage.
The entry fee is R180 and R650 for VIP tickets, which are available at Computicket.
