BUFFALO City music fans have much to look forward this week as Centrestage is staging three popular shows at the Guild Theatre from tomorrow, following very successful runs in the Bay.
Sticky Fingers: A Tribute to The Rolling Stones is tomorrow night, followed by The Magnificent Seven on Thursday and a tribute to Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash on Friday.
Sticky Fingers sees Centrestage teaming up with Barnyard Theatre entrepreneur Duck Chowles to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show. Chowles himself will front the Centrestage band as charismatic rocker Mick Jagger.
Besides the usual Stones classics, the show will take in gems like Gimme Shelter, Ruby Tuesday and Paint it Black.
Two members of the original lineup will accompany Chowles: Gino Fabbri as Charlie Watts on drums and Joe van der Linden as rock ’ n roll pirate and guitarist Keith Richards.
Centrestage’s most successful show yet, The Magnificent Seven, returns to the Guild on Thursday. More than 100 000 people have seen it over the last few years, with the show having been staged around the country to widespread acclaim.
Seven of the top rock’n’roll bands of all time – the Beatles, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Abba and Queen are featured. Guest artist Cedric Vandenschrik will fly in from Cape Town to front the Queen segment as Freddy Mercury.
On Friday, the Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley tribute will include a special 1950s segment to celebrate Presley’s recent 80th birthday.
Presley and Cash were contemporaries in the early days, having toured and recorded together. Elvis impersonator Lionel Hunt salutes the King, along with Hugo Kleinhans, Megan du Toit (as June Carter), Andrew Warneke (on double bass) and Devon van Rooyen.
- All three shows start at 7.30pm and tickets are available at Computicket. For reduced-priced block bookings. contact Wendy on 082-661-6921.
