EL mom undertook grueling run, cycle, kayak event to prove what women can do
EAST London lawyer turned adventurer Kim van Kets has gone to extreme lengths to inspire her young daughter Hannah: she has run, cycled and kayaked the perimeter of South Africa, covering 6 772 km in less than five months.
Kim, married to fellow endurance athlete and adventurer Peter van Kets, said she did the trip to prove to Hannah “that women can do anything men can”.
She then wrote a book on her epic trip, Tri the Beloved Country, which she is launching at Bargain Books at the Boardwalk in Summerstrand tonight at 5.30 for 6pm.
Today, after a taste of the world of law and the great outdoors, Kim is self-employed as a legal consultant, corporate trainer, freelance writer and motivational speaker.
The book germinated almost four years ago, when Kim left her home in East London on foot and ran to the border of Mozambique.
