SOUTH Africa’s biggest and most exciting motoring event is coming to Port Elizabeth next month. The Eastcape OverDrive Festival will be a total motoring extravaganza, with petrolheads able to see and experience almost everything related to motoring.

From September 20 to 25, enthusiasts will indulge in a host of events – all under the umbrella of one massive motoring festival. And the anchor tenant will be The Herald’s World of Wheels motoring.

Most motor shows involve the public wandering around an exhibition hall but with OverDrive, for the first time, you can be part of the experience.

Visitors will test drive and view the biggest range of the latest and best vehicles on sale today at the World of Wheels Fair at the stadium.

They will also see some of the country’s most magnificent vintage cars as well as Porsches, Maseratis, Ferraris, Jaguars, Mercedes-Benzes and some awesome motorbikes.

Have you always wanted find out just how fast your top-of-the-range car can go?

In association with Motor Sport South Africa and Coega Harbour, a 4km long triple lane highway on Neptune Road will be cleared and safely administered where you can put your pedal to the metal (the top speed recorded so far is 320km/h).

Motorsport fans may enjoy high-speed daredevil racing with a race day as well as dragging and spinning at Aldo Scribante Race Circuit, and stock car racing at the Oval Track in Walmer.

If you are 4×4 fanatic, you can be busy every single day. There is a special Baviaanskloof experience along a route through pristine countryside (two days); or you can have a ball with the Family Fun Course around PE – doing things none of you thought you could legally do in a 4×4.

You can take on the Adventure Challenge out at Crossways Farm Village or you can test yourself against a unique course at the NMB Stadium.

There will also be a whole host of special events.

The Siyaya Taxi Gymkhana will strive to find the Bay’s best and safest driver.

Then there’s something for the women – a Great Gatsby luxury high tea at the Boardwalk with “Daisy”, the Gatsby vintage Packard.

An advanced driving course will take you into the world of the super drivers at Scribante Circuit.

You can also visit Eben de Vos’s motor museum in Newton Park and the Volkswagen Pavilion in Uitenhage.

Numerous charities will benefit from the Overdrive Festival.

The 4×4 experience will be in aid of Cheshire Homes, the Jam Jar Rally in aid of the Walmer Library Township Project, and the Baviaanskloof Motor Bike Rough Rider event in aid of the Kelly Bayer Fund.

The Siyaya Taxi Gymkhana will donate proceeds to the Port Elizabeth Children’s Home.

Motoring is the Bay’s biggest industry – test it, drive it, see it and let the thrill get you revved up.
