Women choose favourites

THE South African Women on Wheels (Wow) magazine runs a national "car of the year" promotion, with winners determined by an all-female judging panel and readers' votes. The Wow Women's Car of the Year Awards asks its readers to help decide which is the best car in 11 categories.

"South Africa's female motorists are incredibly fortunate in that they are treated to a huge selection of cars from all corners of the globe, but this enormous selection means that making the right decision can be extremely challenging," says Wow editor Charleen Clarke.

"That was why Associated Media founded Wow, a comprehensive, annual motoring magazine for women, by women, that showcases cars for every lifestyle and budget – as well as the inspiration behind our brand new match-maker app Car Cupid, which takes info supplied by the reader and finds her the five cars on the market that best fit her requirements.

'The Wow Women's Car of the Year Awards, now in its eighth year, further help women make educated buying decisions by highlighting excellence in the industry. Car manufacturers have truly lifted their game, and it's seldom that they launch a lemon. As such, we believe that they deserve recognition."

The judging panel for this year's awards sees Clarke joined by an all-female panel of motoring journalists from many South African publications. Readers' votes will be added to those of the judges.

The categories of this year's WOW Women's Car of the Year Awards are as follows:

  • Budget buys
  • Hatchbacks
  • Green cars
  • Sedans
  • Convertibles
