THE Friendly City Youth Ballet will present a fundraising production Doing it for Dance at the Savoy Theatre in Port Elizabeth in July.

The self-funding enterprise has been presenting full scale ballet productions in Port Elizabeth since 1983.

"Usually choreographed by professionals from Cape Town City Ballet, this year's production takes a different and exciting format," the Youth Ballet's Monica Hewitson said.

"Siobhan Day, a long-standing member of the Youth Ballet who has danced in many Youth Ballet productions, has now been given the choreographer's hat and will be responsible for staging this year's production."

Hewitson said basing the production on music from the movies, Day had put together an enchanting bouquet of dances for ballerinas aged from six to 13 years, as well as guest appearances by three senior youth ballet dancers.

"Ensembles to look forward to – among others – include Unchained Melody, Wings, Atmosphere, Spirit, a delightful trio with senior guest dancers Ashlee Day, Channae Erens and Shayne Greene, as well as an enchanting quartet entitled Dream."

The programme also features guest dancers from Ellen Bunting's studio, performing Hit The Road, Jack.

"The production is being staged cabaret-style with the audience seated at tables and chairs, making it an informal and fun-filled occasion for dance lovers."

Performance days and times are: Friday July 18 at 7.30pm and Saturday July 19 at 3.30pm and 7pm. Tickets are R100 for adults and R80 for scholars, students and pensioners. For more details contact Monica on 083-471-8893.
