Forget the cold, Skinnerbek knows what's hotting up the social

FRIDAY was fire-day in New Brighton last week – in more ways than one!

Yes, Skinnerbek was there for the launch of Blawa Butcheries – another chesa nyama – but this time with a difference.

It's good that all these chesa nyamas are being launched in winter when ladies don't care too much about those extra calories.

The place was packed and it was of some comfort to see a police van outside because we really did not want to be checking behind our backs the whole time.

There were people from Judo SA who graced the event, including chairman Mthunzi Mapitiza and his vice president Sipho Tyatya. Your Gossip Girl also spotted Mimi Siwa, director at the department of transport, and there were also well-known business people like Khusta Jack and Mthwabo Ndube.

Lelethu "Poetic Soul" Mahambehlala was the MC for the evening. You know when Lelethu is around you will definitely find Asanda Mqiki who gave a stellar performance. That girl never disappoints.

I am not sure about the kwaito artist Touchline though. Dahling, you need to do a lot of practising instead of standing in front of people and torturing them like that. Shuh! You nearly sent me to bed early!

And then the heat was on. Really on!

As I was enjoying my braai meal when one of the local DJs took over, and within two minutes one of the speakers was a braai! Literally on fire.

No one knew what caused it but there was a lot of smoke and that was my cue to leave.

Sunday was the first day of the concert season which took place at the PE Opera house.

Heavy K was the main act and he came with kwaito duo Sdudla and Mathousand who are now residing in Jozi.

I must say, the vibe was really cool – it was good that it was not that packed as your Skinnerbek had the chance to shake what her mama gave her.

Skinnerbek could not miss Lulo Cafe for anything. He was at the new cocktail bar, Infinity in Algoa Park. It is the new hip and happening place in town.

Girls were dressed to the nines and the boys were not too shabby either. On the ones and twos were DJs Lulo Cafe, Heavy K and Biggz Sauls. Local DJ Marrest upped his game when he featured some other guy during his set.

PE socialites came out in numbers and I also spotted KQfm people – Xceedo and DJ Zol.

The Opera House launched a R2-million dance and drama programme.

The newly appointed MEC of sports, arts and culture Pemmy Majodina was fashionably late. But she really rocked in a black and white outfit.

There was also actor and director Sisanda Henna who looked sensational in designer jeans, navy shirt and a grey blazer.

Shame, dahling! He still refers to Bonnie Mbuli as his wife – weren't they divorced? Isidingo executive producer Pumla Hopa gave a moving speech that nearly brought tears to my eyes. In my next life I am sure I also want to be in the acting business. Let's meet again next week – keep warm and ciao. - SKINNERBEK
