Jesse Clegg hits the big time

JESSE Clegg's international ambitions have been given a major boost with confirmation that he will play the main stage at one of the UK's biggest festivals next month.

The young musician, son of the legendary Johnny, has been added to the lineup of the Isle of Wight Festival that features the likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings of Leon and Fall Out Boy.

Clegg said he was thrilled to get the call from his manager this week.

"It's a huge privilege and an honour. It's also a learning experience for me to see how the internationals carry themselves."

The Today hit-maker has been steadily building his profile internationally after solid domestic success.

"I've just been out in the States, we're on tour now in South Africa and then we go to Europe," Clegg said.

He said his music had definitely evolved, was more experimental and a "bit more complex and darker in certain areas" as he had spent the majority of the last two years abroad.

"South Africa has been amazing to me and my music has connected with people and given me a home base. My mission now is to take it overseas and to challenge myself.

"Because of my background I've seen the breadth and depth of the music scene. My own ambitions are international, I guess," Clegg said. – Marvin Meintjies
