Settle in for a while at Cave Dwellers

WELL it made sense didn't it. If the City Slukker – freshly returned from one of the wettest winters in living memory on the other side of the planet – was going to seek shelter, it would have to be an obvious choice. Like a cave?

There aren't many caves in London – in fact very little cover to dive for in a sudden downpour when all the pubs in your neighbourhood are packed to capacity (as they are every night!).

But back in the Bay – and a lot drier – CS had heard of "the Cave" in Walmer – a relatively new watering hole which had managed to slip his notice before he headed off to what had become a rather larger watering hole: a flooded England.

You would be forgiven for at first not getting (or possibly forgetting) the name of this sluk-den in Moore Street since it's not really written anywhere outside. But hey, since when do caves have signage?

Actually, it's called Cave Dwellers, which sounds a lot more welcoming and homely since it conjures the idea that you're going to be settling in for a while to enjoy good sluks and company. Which is exactly what the Slukkertary-General and CS did last Saturday where they were welcomed with chilled local 750ml quarts at just R20 (that's just over one pound sterling – so believe CS when he says that's fine value, mate!) coupled with excellent service from a barman who actually notices when you're down to your third last sip.

Cave Dwellers is a roomy venue with a massive bar counter that is geared towards enjoying sport, a shooter or two and those keep-em-coming frosties.

One of the great features of the pozzie though, is the spacious braai area outside which, CS is told, is constantly abuzz with cave dwellers venturing just a couple of metres from the bar to get some juicy munchies sizzling.

There's also lank live entertainment. Unfortunately resident muso "Elvis" hadn't even arrived in the building let alone left it when CS popped in. But the guy's legendary – so the slukker will be caving in once more soon enough. - City Slukker
