THE instant Marc Chong-Seng heard he and his wife Kim had been voted winners of The Herald Bride and Groom 2013 competition, he pulled her close and kissed her – to the delight of the happy crowd at the cocktail finale at The Beach Hotel last night.
The couple have won prizes worth R64000, including jewellery from Francarlo Designer Goldsmith, Defy appliances, an MSC Cruise to Mozambique, hair care from Ultimate Stylists, flowers from Pollen, a Sphere photographic shoot, gourmet dinner with 10 friends at Thunzi Bush Lodge from Three Fat Fish and the Function Warehouse, and a Herald subscription.
“It felt like slow-motion when they were announcing it,” Marc, 28, said last night, while Kim, 27, said it was unbelievable to hear their names called out as the winners after an address by TheHerald editor Heather Robertson.
Seychelles-born Marc moved to the Bay in 2006 and starting dating PE girl Kim (nee Prince) three years later at a mutual friend’s birthday.
Their wedding photographer, Nikki Moss of Cyan Studios, was there to collect her prize from Kodak Express Photo Excellence for her work in a “gale-force wind” last January and was just as thrilled. “They were just great to work with. What you see is what you get – they are always laughing and giggling,” Moss said.
Archdeacon Zweli Tom, of St Stephen’s Church in New Brighton, and last year’s winners Stefan and Kelly Ferreira helped La Femme editor Gillian McAinsh choose the winners along with SMS input from readers of The Herald.
All 12 finalists receive prizes, while one reader who correctly predicted Marc and Kim would take the title wins a prize package worth R8000.
