Star's debut album a romantic affair

NEW Brighton-born Anga Makubalo's debut album is the perfect Valentine's gift, says the 24-year-old multi-talented singer and actor, who has previously enjoyed chart- smashing singles.

Makubalo is best known as the character MJ in SABC1 soapie Generations, in which he plays the role of a spoilt rich kid who is the son of businesswoman Mawande Memela (Nambitha Mpumlwana).

Makubalo, who goes by the stage name of Naakmusiq, said his latest album was a "must have" as it was "full of love music".

His stage name, he explained, was an acronym of those closest to him.

"Naak is made up of four people. N is for my mother Nomvula, A for my sister Asanda, A for me and K for my brother Khanyiso.

"This year's Valentine's will be different for my fans as I am treating them to a 12-track love album called Love and Music.

"It is my debut album and will be released on February 14.

"My fans have been great and so I decided to give them a Valentine's gift.

"I hope they are going to appreciate it as it's taken me two years to record," he quipped.

"I wanted to make sure that I have a solid album."

He said although music was his strong point, he was not going to give up his acting career any time soon.

Two years ago Makubalo featured on DJ Sbu's single Qina and his hit single What Have you Done is now also topping the music charts.

"The new album consists of love songs and it is about how music makes you feel. It is a deep, commercial, tribal house album – not just your typical drum and base house.

"It was produced by the talented Baainar team from my recording company and it will make a lot of people fall in love with house music," he said.
