WHILE many of the venues that annually host Christmas lunches in and around Port Elizabeth are already fully booked, there are still several options to choose from.
The Boardwalk’s Kipling’s Brasserie at its five-star hotel on the Port Elizabeth beachfront is fully booked for December 25, but it is also hosting a Christmas lunch buffet in its new international convention centre for which space is still available. The buffet will include a selection of starters and salads, such as a strawberry, watermelon and feta salad with roasted pumpkin seeds. Choices for mains, too, are plentiful, from tandoori chicken to turkey with cranberries and bacon, or a selection of cooked and cured Christmas meats. The dessert buffet will have a croquembouche choux pastry tower at its centre with traditional Christmas cake and other sweets available. There will also be an ice cream parlour section.
Lunch is from 12.30 to 3pm and the cost is R280. Children aged seven to 11 pay R100 and for those aged three to six the cost is R65.

Exclusive No 5 Boutique Art Hotel in Brighton Drive, Summerstrand, is offering a set menu with a choice of four starters, such as venison springroll with pomegranate jelly and micro herbs. Then there is a choice of three mains followed by some delightful desserts, including spiced pear tarte tatin with a rooibos reduction.

Posh The Eatery in Stanley Street, Richmond Hill, is offering a set lunch with choices for each course at R290. Starter options include smoked salmon on rocket with pesto dressing, topped with avocado and horseradish cream, while deboned chicken with apple, almond, roasted pepper and feta stuffing with cranberry port sauce also awaits. Dessert choices include chocolate and brandied black cherry roulade.

The Addo Elephant National Park’s restaurant will have two sittings of their popular Christmas Day lunch at R160 per person. The idea is that visitors work their way through the park from the Camp Matyholweni gate near Colchester before ending at the main rest camp for lunch, or exit that way afterwards while enjoying the park’s sights along the way, turning it into a day’s outing.Sittings are at noon and 2pm and the restaurant will close at 4pm. Cubana Latino Caffe at Kings Beach is hosting a buffet lunch, including two substantial servings and dessert, at R180. Lunch is from noon until 3pm and children under 10 pay half price. Bookings are on (041) 582-5282. The German Club in Lorraine is having a traditional Christmas Day lunch at 12.30pm. It will be a full buffet at R200. Alan Fryer at Marilyn’s in Villiers Road, Walmer, is doing lunch at R235, with children under 12 paying R150. It includes a served starter of Avocado Ritz and cream of mushroom and chive soup, followed by a main of roast ballotine of turkey, honey-glazed gammon, Karoo lamb with rosemary and lemon. The dessert buffet will include treats likes Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, followed by nuts and chocolates. Lunch starts at noon; book on 071-889-4070.
Colonial Kitchen in Bridge Street is hosting lunch at R245 per person. This includes a welcome snack, starter table platter and buffet-style mains like whole venison fillet stuffed with bone marrow, wild mushrooms and caramelised onions, along with a salad selection. Desserts include Christmas cassata, chocolate fondant and Cape brandy tart.
