SINGER-songwriter and poet Zahara is back in Nelson Mandela Bay for a festive season spectacle. For the Bay leg of her Phendula tour, Zahara will feature acclaimed poet Mzwakhe Mbuli, who is also featured on her new album in a song entitled Nelson Mandela, dedicated to the former president.
“It is going to be a powerful two-hour show as I will be taking my East Cape fans through my musical journey.
“It is always lovely to perform in Port Elizabeth, as the love I get from my fans is amazing.
“The last time I was in PE was some time last year and I can’t wait to share my new album with my PE fans.
“I will be performing with a seven-piece band. It is also great that I will be performing live with some of the artists featured on my album.
“Also, the tour will give my fans first-hand experience of my second album Phendula,” the multi-award winning songstress said.
Ever since the release of her second album, Zahara has toured 10 cities with Port Elizabeth being the 11th.
In addition to Mbuli, the Phendula album features artists such as the Grammy award winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo; the godfather of Nigerian music, BET award winner and MTV award winner 2Face Idibia; and the talented up-and-coming twins Anele and Neliswa Mxhakaza.
Her fans will get to enjoy songs like Phendula, Rise Again, Stay and Intliziyo Yam from her 14-track second album.
Zahara, from East London, said she was impressed when she started the Phendula tour in Cape Town that people were already singing songs from the new album.
“It has been an amazing journey going to perform in all the different cities.
“The love I have received is amazing. I have had fans following me from province to province.
“I have also grown as an artist because there is nothing as good as to perform in your own show.
“My PE fans will get the best of me,” she said.
Zahara’s fans will also get to enjoy songs from her first album Loliwe, which was sold out within 72 hours of release last year.
Her second offering is also not doing too badly as she has already sold 100000 copies.
The audience will also be entertained by Kaya FM’s DJ Mzimela and Umhlobo Wenene’s DJ Pastor. Zahara will be signing CDs at Greenacres Musica at lunchtime today.
Zahara’s Phendula Tour concert takes place at 2pm on Sunday at the Boardwalk’s festival lawn.
Tickets are available at Computicket for R150 per person.
