IT has been about four decades since Sethlabi Taunyane last visited Port Elizabeth and now the veteran actor is set to return to the Bay, along with some of the small screen’s other popular e.tv stars.
Taunyane, 57, better known for his role as Rhythm City’s Kop, is among the actors and presenters on the e.tv eKasi Tour, an initiative whereby fans get to see and interact with the stars.
“The last time I was in PE was in the early ’70s. I was working with [the late playwright] Gibson Kente, the late [jazz legend] Stompie Mavi and others. This tour feels like it is reconnecting me with my roots. PE is where I learnt my acting skills and where I got a chance to learn more about this wonderful industry,” Taunyane said yesterday.
Actress Marjorie Langa, who plays Gloria in Scandal!, has never been to Port Elizabeth.
“I just can’t wait to interact with my fans. I am also looking forward to partying with the PE people,” she said. “These e.tv tours are very good as it feels like we are giving back to the community.”
It will also be the first time Craze-e presenter Lerato Kgalamono, 21, visits Port Elizabeth.
“I am definitely excited that I will experience the city. Craze-e fans can expect a lot more fun, quirkiness and loads of laughter. This tour is very special as it is a chance for me to reach out to other communities and the people who have been supporting us throughout,” she said.
“It is also very important to give back to the community and I love the fact that e.tv is giving us the opportunity to not only give material things but also spend time with the children to show our appreciation.”
The e.tv eKasi Tour is an initiative taken by the channel to ensure direct yet meaningful interaction between viewers and personalities from various shows.
Others scheduled to come to the city are Port Elizabeth- born Scandal! actress Masasa Mbangeni, Brighton Ngoma (also Scandal!), Phemelo Kabini (Craze-e), Pam Andrews (Rhythm City) and Mduduzi Mabaso (Rhythm City).
Head of e.tv Monde Twala said Port Elizabeth was the last leg of the tour for the year and promised “we are going out in style”.
“PE is in for a thrilling experience. We encourage people to be at the peak of a party mode and share what is set to be a weekend to remember,” Twala said.
The tour heads to Cubana on the beachfront tomorrow and there will be an opportunity for photos, meet and greet and autographs from 10pm. On Saturday, fans can catch up with the tour at the Cleary Park shopping centre between 10am and 1pm.
