Water Road, where Hollywood dreams come true in this elegant abode, writes Helen Crooks
IT’S the kind of house that you would picture on the French Riviera. Large, elegant gates and high walls concealing a sleek, elegant dwelling with enough security to ensure that prying eyes cannot obtain a glimpse into the ultimate in lifestyles.
It’s an up-market house with entertainer appeal and yet it’s still the kind of place that you would happily raise a family, with space for all the kids and granny too.
But there’s no need to get on a plane to enjoy this kind of living, for this home, with its Mediterranean feel, is located in a quiet part of Walmer close to schools, beaches and shops but at the same time being its own little island when it comes to luxury living.
The first thing that strikes you as the gates open is how the sweeping gravel driveway with a gracious water feature leads the eye so easily to the impressive entrance, sided by garaging for four cars and ample parking.
Private as the property is, the glass doors which access the house would be overdressed if hindered by blinds or curtains: also the lack of “window dressing” allows copious light to fall in the spacious formal lounge, which has parquet wood flooring and an impressive painted domed ceiling.
Adding to the appeal, a curved wooden staircase leads to an upstairs study with stunning views over the front garden and driveway.
And a peek into the downstairs rooms reveals more treasures.
First off there’s the formal dining room with ample space to host dinner parties. There’s also an attractive fireplace nook.
The elegant grey chosen for wall colours throughout is highlighted by the black-and-white kitchen floor tiles: and this is no ordinary kitchen. There’s ample fitted cupboards, a gas and electric hob plus under-counter oven housed in a useful centre island, and enough space for a four-seater table. An added bonus is that the small passageway leading to the lounge is lined with cupboards and has space for a restaurant/pub sized bar fridge.
The lounge itself has a gas fire and features a large bar built with wood rescued from the old PE railway station.
In the completely separate bedroom wing there are four bedrooms, all en-suite with the master bedroom being the stuff of Hollywood dreams. There’s enough space for a king-sized bed and two sumptuous armchairs with views over the pool area. Granite and marble are used to great effect in the en-suite which has a bath, separate wet-room style shower and separate WC (flush toilet). A dressing room is concealed behind wooden doors.
As if all this is not enough there’s also a separate self-contained guest or granny suite, with its own bathroom, and a separate wendy house/ laundry area.
And while all this may add up to a sum total of stylish living, there’s also tons of outside living where this house truly comes into its own. A covered patio, which has a table which easily accommodates 18 people, looks over the blue-tiled pool and jacuzzi, with strategically placed exterior wall mirrors reflecting both the pool and the astro-turf which reduces maintenance in this garden area to a minimum.
The sum total is a house where words cannot describe the calm atmosphere it exudes. It’s a 653m² dream come true.
