AT the end of the month, with the help of the Pearson High School Art Club and pupils from Merryvale High, a fantasy play area will take shape at EduPuppets Fairy Hollow children’s theatre venue at the Kings Court Market.
The EduPuppet Fairy Hollow theatre venue was initiated when mother and daughter duo, Stacey Kay and Angie Waugh, took over a drab corner in the market.
The pair who started EduPuppets, a business that provides educational shows at schools, libraries, festivals and special events, wanted to create an area where kids could come and play during the December holidays. Then Kay and Waugh were put in contact with Mia Foster, who is a member of the Pearson High School Art Club.
The club will be lending a helping hand for four to five days doing the fine art detail. Dealing with the unused space, the mother-daughter team had the idea of creating an create a fantasy play area, which would be open to the public when they did not have show bookings.
The main themes being a castle, Indiana Jones with a pirate cove and a fairy doll house. Senior phase Merryvale pupils have also been doing some of the prep work before Pearson take over on November 28.
“Two of our classes have been attending weekly workshops at Edu Puppets for the past two months and we are so amazed at the positive impact this experience has had on our pupils,” said Gerda Saayman, a teacher at Merryvale School for Specialised Education.
