MANY teenagers dream of becoming a supermodel and for Rowallan Park Grade eight pupil Rochelle Momberg that dream has come a step closer thanks to Reach for a Dream and a few helping hands.
Despite suffering from a form of leukaemia, 14-year-old Rochelle is beating the odds and now has a professionally produced portfolio of modelling pictures, an important part of her dream to become a model in South Africa.
Her photo shoot was organised with the help of Reach for a Dream, a foundation which fulfils the dreams of children fighting life-threatening diseases.
“Since I was little, I’ve always wanted to model. I do enjoy being on the catwalk and being in front of the camera.
“I think my inspiration came when my parents got divorced. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I got in touch with Reach for a Dream and that’s when it all really started for me,” Rochelle said.
Kevin McDonald of F Stop Photography, which did a photo shoot for Reach for a Dream where Momberg was one of the models, said he was taken in by the teenager’s ability in front of the camera.
This led to him contacting a make-up artist and photographer from Nelson Mandela Bay in order to make Momberg’s dream come true.
“I met young Rochelle and her mom, Vicky, in July of this year while doing a photo shoot for the Reach for a Dream Foundation [in Johannesburg]. Vicky told me at that time Rochelle had some aspirations and I promised to help in any way I could.
“Subsequently I contacted some colleagues in the photography industry down in PE to assist with setting up a shoot for Rochelle,” he said.
“Two fabulous artists came to the party and did some incredible work with Rochelle: Michael Sheehan and Heather Stevens. They both did great work.”
He said Momberg was bound to become a star in front of the camera like her favourite model Candice Swanepoel.
“Once in a while you meet someone who has the natural ability to captivate an audience with their beauty and personality. Their passion to reach for that dream and stand out as a star.”
