GLEN Hurd couple Pat and Ashley Mason will mark their 40th anniversary – and Pat’s 60th birthday – in style next month with a trip to Disneyworld and a Caribbean cruise.
They were married on December 17 1973, in the Newton Park Methodist Church and have two daughters, Debbie and Talana, a son Lloyd and three grandchildren: Jordan, Danielle and Liam.
As well as the family electrical business L Mason in Port Elizabeth, the couple owns a boutique wine farm, TTT Cellars in Calitzdorp.
“It has been a long, hard slog but worth every bit. I am always so sad when I hear of people getting divorced,” said Pat. “A little love, patience and kindness ( and sometimes turning a blind eye) keeps a marriage going.
“There’s also a lot of fun, laughter and family and friendships to see you grow together and develop with the years.
“You either get stronger or buckle and the choice is yours to make.”
She equates a marriage with the four seasons: “You sometimes have four seasons all in one day but the sun does shine again and that is what is so challenging in life.
“I love it!!”
