LETTING the sunshine in and being creative are two of wedding dress designer Leandra Fourie’s favourite things, and for her, no place is better for both than her studio in Summerstrand.
Fourie said she is most comfortable in her sunshine-showered studio, where she interacts with clients and spends some of her free time when she is not designing.
“This is where I can sit and have some quietness with the sun bursting through the windows. Design is my life and this is where I consult with clients and conceptualise their gowns with them,” she said.
Fourie has proven her mettle as one of Nelson Mandela Bay’s top designers by winning the prestigious Africa Bridal Industry Academy awards five years in a row.
She received the first two accolades in 2009 and 2010 at national level, with the last three years being inter-provincial awards between KwaZuluNatal and the Eastern Cape.
My style in five words: Simplistic elegance, less is more!
On my wish-list: I am quite content with what I have and what I have achieved in life. Maybe a bit of grass outside the studio so that I can sit and design under the palm trees. Best colour: Definitely purple. Pet decor peeve: No cluttering for me! And plastic decor.
My indulgence: Buying fabrics locally and on my travels overseas and never have the time to make something from them. Always making gowns for clients and not myself.
Favourite character from a movie or book: Vig Morgan from the book Fashionistas.
