NEW Brighton award-winning singer and multi-platinum selling songstress Zonke Dikana is telling her story in the context of four seasons through her debut live concert recording.
Dikana, 31, the goodwill ambassador for the United High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC), recently released her first live concert CD, Give and Take.
The double album that comprises 20 tracks was recorded on July 5 at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City, Johannesburg and released on Monday.
“This was my first time recording a live concert and it went very well.
“I had such a great audience who sang along to my songs. I wanted to create an atmosphere for the audience that they were seated in my home, hence the set design was built around the look and feel of a large entertainment room in my created mansion,” Dikana said.
“The audience were my VIP guests and I made sure to entertain and tell them my story. I decided to tell my story in a context of the four seasons,” Dikana said .
She said the songs were planned in such a way that they followed the seasons from autumn, winter and spring, before ending on a happy note in summer.
The live recording features two hours of music and includes all the hits such as Feelings, Ngomso, Uzondilinda and Jikizinto – among others. “The double CD package also includes the brand new single Say Now. I performed it for the first time at the concert and I was impressed by the response I got from the audience.
“They sang along as if they had known the song all along. This live recording is reflective of me and my music at its very best,” she said.
Every aspect of the recording was conceptualised by Dikana who composed and directed the entire live show.
The DVD will be released in November.
“My Port Elizabeth fans should not worry as they will get to see me perform live at the Boardwalk ICC on November 16. I will take them through the journey of my music life,” she said.
