Bright lights beckon ousted Williams

OUSTED Idols contestant Christina Williams is considering moving to Johannesburg where “everything happens”.

After her last performance of the Alicia Keys hit Fallin’, she had prepared herself for the worst so it was no surprise when she was booted off the popular show.

Park Drive resident Williams, who had consistently been in the bottom three, said she felt “OK” when it was announced she would be leaving the show.

“I was sort of expecting it as my last performance was not the best. After the judge’s comments I prepared myself for the worst, but hoped I would make it through to the top 6,” said the full-time singer.

Williams’s dream of making it on to the show were almost scuppered when Idols producers announced they did not have plans to hold auditions in Port Elizabeth.

Algoa FM convinced producers to hold the auditions in the friendly city and Williams and three others – Thuba Myeki, 22, Edward Allen, 26, and Amanda Antony, 19 – were given an opportunity to go through to the next stage. However, it was the end of the road for Williams in the 9th season of Idols when it was announced on Tuesday night that she was in the bottom three with Crystalene Nair, 24, and Bunny Majala, 26.

Judge Randall Abrahams said he felt that she was a good pop singer but no a soul artist. After it was announced that Majala had made it through to the next round Williams was left battling it out with her best friend on the show, Nair. When presenter Proverb announced that it was Williams who had been voted out, she and Nair shared a hug.

“Idols has helped me to grow as a musician and I have learnt a lot about the music industry. I am now ready to conquer the music world.

“I am looking for someone who can write songs for me as there might be a few recording deals in the pipeline,” Williams said. “I am also considering moving to Johannesburg because that is where everything is happening.”

Williams matriculated at Linkside High in 2010. She spent 2011 working as a waitress in Summerstrand and last year decided to sing on a full-time basis, performing at corporate and other events.
