Bloggers on a drive to put Bay in the spotlight

THREE Port Elizabeth bloggers are putting the city on the map.

Architecture student Lauren Buchanan, 26, her sister, media communication and culture student Andrea Buchanan, 21, and law student Simonne Paarman, 23, are showcasing Nelson Mandela Bay’s hidden treasures in the Ford EcoSport Urban Discovery competition.

“I want PE to win because I want the rest of the country to know we are the best city,” Lauren said.

“We have a lot to offer.”

The three-week competition challenges teams in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg to unearth their cities’ “best-kept secret destinations”. The prize is a Ford EcoSport. The teams have to write a blog documenting their discoveries, and upload photographs and videos to get people to follow their adventures and interact with them.

Each team is given a Ford EcoSport SUV to help them explore.

The finalists from each city were chosen based on videos they submitted of a unique place in their area.

Attractions documented so far include the Addo Elephant National Park, Vovo Telo coffee shop in Richmond Hill, Fisherman Fresh at the harbour, Wurst Wagen at Sardinia Bay, Hobie Beach, Spice Cafe in Walmer and the SA Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre at Cape Recife.

The winners will be announced at the beginning of next month.
