Singer promotes new album in PE

AWARD-winning gospel artist Deborah Fraser is in Nelson Mandela Bay to promote her new album, Umqhele.

For her seventh album, Fraser blended her trademark gospel songs with Zulu folk music, collaborating with maskandi artists Phuzekhemisi and Thokozani Langa. She also recorded a song called Akekho Ofana Nawe with Soul Brothers lead singer David Masondo.

“Umqhele, the title of the album, was suggested to me by my fans. The album comes after I was hospitalised in January this year for diabetes. When I was sick I thought I was going to die and my first track, Ngiza Kuwe [coming to you], tells the whole story. However, I was not scared of death because as a child of God I know where I stand,” she said.

Fraser, whose last visit to Port Elizabeth was four years ago, will spend four days in the Bay promoting her CD. – Yoliswa Sobuwa
