Family fun at the expo
The Eastern Cape's biggest family expo is back this weekend, from 9am to 5pm from Friday to Sunday at Moffett on Main Lifestyle Centre, bringing the perfect finale to the school holidays.
The basement of the shopping centre in Walmer will be transformed into a fun-filled, child-friendly venue with more than 100 exhibitors, expo exclusive specials, shopping, food courts, a sports arena with cricket and rugby coaching, playgrounds, fashion and puppet shows, live reading with The Herald Nal'ibali, and creativity and crafts.
If you're an expectant parent or family with children up to the age of 12 or simply looking to browse and shop for the latest in family goods, don't miss it.
This year's jam-packed entertainment programme has heaps of new attractions, such as the introduction of creative sewing and craft workshops.
Action Cricket returns as a firm favourite with the addition of the Future Kings rugby coaching team. You can also meet the Kings players who will visit the event on Saturday to join in the fun and sign autographs.
Look out for the Tropika Playground with new games and activities such as "Fishing Fun" for little ones and Windsor Park, where the kids can enjoy outdoor fun in the comfort and safety of being indoors.
There is also the Clover "Way Better" playground with putt-putt, netball, boxing and soccer goal-shooting.
All this while mom and dad can join in or keep a close eye as they relax in one of the many delicious food stalls that form part of the expanded food court offering.
There will be a performance stage with fashion and puppet shows as well as a wide range of interesting and informative stands, including top private schools, healthcare professionals, décor, furniture, holiday destinations, photography, crafts, toys, and much more.
If you're scouting for new products the expo is launching a number of new products to the Eastern Cape region and there are heaps of expo-exclusive specials.
All visitors will also stand a chance of winning the R45000 family prize and there are many other exhibitor competitions you can enter once inside.
For giving back there is the Care Zone where you can contribute to charitable causes closely linked to the family. This year's charities are Thand'usana Babies Safe Home for abused and abandoned babies, Ulutho: Adoption & Fostering Support Organisation, and Retina SA (dovetailing with World Retina Week): Saving Children's Sight.
Entrance is R30 for adults and R20 for kids and all children get a delicious Super M 200ml milkshake, while all visitors get a goodie bag with a Pritt Giveaway and Living & Loving or Your Family magazine.
