Time for some serious rock

SOUTH African Music Award-winning rock band, Prime Circle, are set to light up the stage in Port Elizabeth and East London next week.

The group will be performing songs from their latest album, Evidence, which was released in November last year.

The new release sees the band confirming their staying power in a fickle industry but more than that, it marks a progression of their sound, and a collision of several strands of dynamic tension and creativity, into a cohesive whole.

“We’re not playing by the rules on this one,” Prime Circle singer and principle songwriter, Ross Learmonth said.

“We’re still making music after all this time and are proudly doing our thing in South Africa, after many other rock bands have come and gone.”

Much of the impetus for the new album can be traced back to Prime Circle’s movements since the release of Jekyll & Hyde in 2010. Acknowledged by the band as a “risky” album, it nonetheless achieved platinum status and picked up a best English rock album Sama in 2011 as well as an MK Award for best international breakthrough act.

They are performing at the Union Cricket Club in St George’s Park in PE on Friday September 27 and the Venue@Hemingways in East London on Thursday September 26. Booking is through Computicket.

Learmonth and Marco Gomes are also among the local celebs who are showing off their culinary prowess in a series of dynamic cook-offs at the 2013 Taste the Good Life food and wine fair at Hemingways on Monday and Tuesday.

Their cook-off, against some AlgoaFM jocks, takes place on the main stage from 1pm on Monday. They will be given a basket of mystery ingredients and tasked to create and prepare something innovative and tasty in just one hour. If their dishes are any good, they will be featured on the specials menu at Key Largo Restaurant from October to December.

Earlier in the day Michael de Pinna will be doing a cook-off against chef George Georgiou from Silverstar Casino, who broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual in 2011 when he became the first chef in the world to have cooked for 36 hours non-stop.

Doors to the Taste the Good Life fair open at 3pm on Monday and close at 10pm. On Tuesday, the event starts at 10am and ends at 7pm. The entry fee is R90. Visitors can pay at the door or book tickets at Computicket.
