Letting the sun shine in

NELSON Mandela Bay socialite Carol Jean Fourie gives La Femme readers a peek into her warm Summerstrand home.

She and husband Keith moved from Cape Town 28 years ago to open the Silver Cloud Spur in Newton Park.

She worked there until their first baby was born and jokes with her friends about being on “maternity leave” for nearly 25 years. Fourie has been doing social media publicity for Centrestage for several years.

She let La Femme into her sunroom, saying it was perfect for all seasons. She loves seeing the garden through the stacking glass doors.

In winter the fireplace warms up the room and in summer it’s cool with the doors open, a sundowner spot, and gives the family direct access to their swimming pool.

My style in five words: Cosy, comfortable, earthy, warm, inviting.

On my wish-list: I would love to do a slight makeover in my big family room as it is an awkward shape. I’d like to keep the earthy tones, with a rustic touch. It’s our playroom where we listen to music, watch DVDs and where my son often plays his musical instruments (guitar and drums). I like the comfortable feel it projects.

Best colour: I have two: red wine and gold tequila.

Pet décor peeve: Artificial flowers or fruit. Fresh flowers and plants are available in abundance. Artificial flowers equal an artificial personality. Just be real.

I also hate “karate-chopped” scatter cushions – whoever thought of displaying their cushions like that in the first place? Just silly.

My indulgence: Drinking good red wine with my hubby and friends in our sunroom at any time of the day or night, watching music DVDs and attending live music shows.

Favourite movie or book character: Brad Pitt as Meet Joe Black – 100% hotness!
