PORT Elizabeth singer Melissa Allison is hoping her upcoming appearances in a national television series will lead to even greater things in the film industry.
The 2012 Idols runner-up, who is the only Eastern Cape contestant to have ever made it that far in the competition, was beaten by Durbanite Khaya Mthethwa.
She is learning lines for an appearance in the popular series Scandal.
This will be her first venture into acting. The 24-year-old, who says she is not yet allowed to reveal details about her character in the series, believes having to master lines for TV is a lot more difficult than singing.
“A TV series is like learning four songs at once,” she said.
The former St Thomas High pupil hopes her appearance in Scandal will lead to more acting roles.
“I am hoping that this opportunity opens more doors. I would love to do film. That’s my big goal.”
The spunky singer, who is on set right now, says one of the best things about acting is the feeling she gets after learning all the lines, and delivering them.
She says being able to portray a character is “a great feeling”.
“It feels like you have given it horns,” the songstress said.
But this does not mean she is neglecting her singing career.
Busy Allison still finds time to go to the studio in between shoots, where she is working on something new.
“I am writing and producing my album as well as gigging,” she said.
