KWAZAKHELE-born Pu2ma Tiso is among a group of South African artists paying tribute to the late Miriam Makeba in Paris this weekend.

The 31-year-old jazz singer will be sharing the stage with Hugh Masekela, Thandiswa Mazwai and The Mahotella Queens. “This means so much for my career. It is a great honour for my name to be … among the legends in South African music,” Tiso said.

“This means I am finally getting recognition outside the country and that excites me very much.”

Tiso said she was spotted by international agents attending the Cape Town International Jazz Festival earlier this year.

“When I went to perform at the [festival] my aim was to catch the attention of the international agents. I could not believe it when my manager got a call from one of the agents … wanting to promote me overseas.

“He is also the one who has organised this gig for me,” she said.
