IT IS not every day a girl has the chance to get a real rally experience, but once you do, you want to come back and play Fast and Furious on the city’s freeway.
With Volkswagen Sasol racing driver Enzo Kuun behind the wheel at Longmore Forest yesterday and strapped in with a six-point harness, we were off to a breathtaking start.
The amazing two-minute 2km ride – at what to me seemed like breakneck speed on the rough track – was exhilarating.
I heroically tried not to scream as Kuun expertly navigated the Volkswagen Polo S2000 around the harrowing turns and the car seemed to fly right over some corners.
The short but outrageously exciting ride, where your life and everything else flashes before your eyes, was like being in an intense roller-coaster ride that ends all too quickly.
With the padded helmet acting as a buffer to the noise and the quick-footed driver acting like it was just a day out on a picnic, it is easy to see why Kuun and the rest of his team say there is nothing quite like it.
But I am not sure if my stomach is strong enough to handle the 160km – and more – they have to do in the VW Rally. – Thulani Gqirana
