THE comedic uncles Bala and Peru have included East London on the route of a nationwide tour and will be bringing their show to Hemingways Casino for the first time next Saturday July 20.
During the 30-show tour in 25 towns hey expect 40000 fans to fill the various venues.
Bala, portrayed by Vikash Mathura, and Peru, played by Ray Maharaj, are household names, particularly among the South African Indian community.
They are two 72-year-old characters who were conceptualised by Maharaj and Mathura in 1998 for Lotus FM.
The characters were an instant hit with listeners, and in 1999, the pair took “The Uncles” to stage for the very first time.
During their comedic-career, “The Uncles” have performed to about 3.5-million fans, released two top-selling CDs, published a book, and featured in a weekly cartoon strip.
Their video clips on YouTube have also attracted thousands of views from people in 30 countries.
Casino marketing manager Neville Austin said: “We are just thrilled to have these famous uncles performing. It is a real treat for fans to see these characters, whose familiar voices have kept them entertained for 15 years, come to life on stage.
“An evening with Bala and Peru promises to be a riotously funny experience. You’ll be hooked,” he added.
Bala and Peru take to the stage at the Venue@Hemingways at 8pm on July 20. Tickets to the show are available at Computicket at R130.
