Honour our women at glittering gala dinner

THE Port Elizabeth branch of the Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) will host South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka as its guest speaker next week at its Regional Business Achiever Awards in Summerstrand.

Dubbed the “Princess of Africa”, Chaka Chaka has been at the forefront of South African popular music for almost 30 years.

She joined Dephon Records in the mid 1980s, where her debut album, I’m in Love with a DJ sold 350000 copies.

Today Chaka Chaka is as well known for her role as a goodwill ambassador for Unicef and the Roll Back Malaria Partnership as for her music, advocating for malaria prevention, education and treatment. She holds two diplomas from the University of South Africa, one in adult education and another in local government, management and administration.

Chaka Chaka will address the association’s annual awards ceremony, which celebrates the achievements and contributions of businesswomen in the metro.

“Each year we honour the many remarkable women whose achievements in business have served to elevate the true spirit of ‘proudly South African’ within their local economy,” said Port Elizabeth branch chairman Michelle Brown, who also is vice-president of BWA South Africa.

“Join us for a glittering evening of celebration as we honour these phenomenal women.”
