Minki is happier than ever before

SLINKY Minki van der Westhuizen is now mere weeks from giving birth to her first child with her husband of one year, rugby star Ernst Joubert. The 29-year-old said yesterday that she had had a relatively straightforward pregnancy.

Pregnancy cravings among famous moms have included actress Natalie Portman who craved “anything with vinegar”, Jessica Alba who needed ham and cheese sandwiches and singer Pink who sought sour skittles. But Minki said she only craved decaf cappuccinos.

While they don’t want to know the sex of the baby, she admitted the timing was perfect.

“We were hoping for a honeymoon baby, and I fell pregnant four months after we got married. So the timing is absolutely great. God’s timing is always perfect.” Asked about possible baby names, she added: “We are giving family names so that makes it really easy and there are no arguments.”

And after two much-publicised break-ups (her 2007 marriage to businessman Constant Visser broke down after a year, leading to a divorce and before then, she and Proteas test Captain Graeme Smith had called it quits in 2006 after dating from 2004), she said yesterday that she had never been happier with her man.

In fact, she has “no doubt” that her husband is her soulmate – days before their one-year wedding anniversary. The pair tied the knot at the Andrew Murray Church in Wellington on June 8 last year.

The model, now called Willemien Joubert, said: “I have no doubt [that he’s my soul mate]. The past year has been the best yet. Ernst is my best friend, my companion, my lover and my partner in life. We are super blessed to have each other.”

How will the pair be celebrating on Saturday? “Well, there definitely won’t be any champagne for me this year, but he is treating me to a lovely dinner at the famous Zuma restaurant [in Knightsbridge, London].”

Her hubby currently plays for UK rugby union outfit Saracens, who currently lead the English Premiership. But Minki said the family won’t be settling down there for good. They plan on returning to South Africa by 2015.

In 2004, she was named the winner of FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll by South African readers.

She has also made other glossy magazines including Elle, GQ, Cosmopolitan, Glamour and Bravo.
