THERE’S nothing quite like rubbing shoulders with the peeps from celebville!
The setting? Sun City. The event? The MTN Sama awards! Skinnerbek nearly had a heart attack on Friday when I missed my flight but being the dramatic diva I am, I was put on the next available one.
I went to have lunch with senior MTN manager Bridget Bhengu in one of the top posh restaurants in Bryanston before leaving for the big event. Celeb publicist Simphiwe Majola had everyone in stitches with his hilarious jokes on the way.
Later in the evening we enjoyed a braai and your Gossip Girl bumped into Zahara sporting a new hairdo. Thank heavens – the Afro was no longer doing her a favour.
Also crossed paths with Generations’ Zolisa Xaluva. Oh my! He is such a breath of fresh air and a very nice dude.
Cama Gwini was in a Michael Jackson- inspired outfit for the awards, while Loyiso Bala is such a dahling – he looked super hot in his purple blazer and was only too happy to chat to moi.
Presenter Zizo Beda looked sexy in a Rubicon gown but I think Zonke Dikana should have made more effort, the plain dress just did not do it for me.
However later on she changed into a long white dress for her performance. I must say she is such a diva – waiting on stage afterwards for someone to come and lift up her dress for her!
Also Point Five’s Heavy K rocked up in jeans and a basketball jacket. Dahling, you don’t go to the Samas like that!
Zahara, who wore a long cream gown, is such a great singer but I can’t say the same about her public speaking.
I just could not understand what she was mumbling when she went to present an award. Oh, but I loved Toya DeLazy’s performance. That chick is on another level. The highlight of the night came when a dancer from Zozo and Sangere Superbeat literally got over-excited and messed his pants. Oh dahling, I feel so sorry for you – I am sure it was because of all those strenuous moves.
Dr Malinga, who was wearing his trademark suit, proved to everybody that he is the life of any party. He took to the stage with Mahoota vs Vetkoek and had everyone standing and dancing. After the awards we went to the VIP after-party and Mafikizolo took us down memory lane with their great hit.
True Love editor Lerato Tshabalala looked beautiful in a long silky blue gown and she can sure dance. Also spotted The Real Goboza’s Phat Joe enjoying the company of two young ladies.
What a night, I wanted to dance till the next morning but unfortunately your Skinnerbek had to sleep early as I did not want to miss my flight – again!
As I was leaving, I bumped into Julius Malema and he was all smiles. He was even nice to a few randoms who asked to have pictures taken with him!
Your Skinnerbek is not an early riser by any stretch of the imagination – especially for a breakfast function – however, being in the company of 15 hot boys can work a girl’s appetite!
Mr PE Darren Pieterse recently organised a fundraiser for the Igazi Foundation with guest speaker, world waveski champion of 2011, Sandra Pienaar.
Dressed in a nice black and white dress, she shared with the early birds her tumultuous rise to fame from having no sponsors to attend the Olympics, to being told by the doctor she can’t play sports anymore. She just rose above that and did it her way!
The lady is the rock star of waveskiing and was worth waking up for at sparrow’s – I am inspired.
The Eastern Cape Derby at Fairview Race Course for Mother’s Day was the perfect opportunity for Skinnerbek to take mom along for the ride – she was already wishing bad things for me if I left her behind!
Karin le Roux was a gem as usual, looking after us properly and the old lady had no complaints, just praise. Cheers Karin! The Bay TV crowd descended on the event (late as usual!) with familiar faces Xolani Yisaka (great outfit brother!) and Naledi Boltina, in a sheer (seriously sheer!) white mini dress.
Bulelani Wabani needs to take better care of the Afro – Bulelani, my brother, a visit to the salon once a week will get rid of the kinks stuck in the hair.
Seriously, I am with my mother – do not make me come over with my own Afro comb and do it for you.
My socialite friends and newlyweds Roland and Shahnaz Williams were at the event looking fabulous in matching mint green outfits. Congratulations to the pair on Shahnaz’s pregnancy. They look delightfully happy about the news.
There was some delicious eye candy for yours truly from the male models in the fashion show by NMMU students – pity the sound man could not work the buttons of his mixer. Eish! Do I have to teach everyone how to do things properly?
