UNDERGROUND hip-hop artist Maxhoseni has released his third mixtape, Music, and is working on his debut album to be released next year.

Maxhoseni, whose real name is Bongile Pateni, burst onto the scene with his single Ikhoboka Lenyaniso (Slave of the Truth) in 2008.

His latest single, Xa Ndifile (When I am Dead), has reached the No 3 spot on Motsweding FM’s top 10 hottest hip hop songs and is also being played on other national and local radio stations.

The mixtape contains 20 tracks.

“[Xa Ndifile] talks about something everybody thinks about. We all wonder what will happen when we are no longer on this earth. I have also written about the hardships in our townships and have included solutions. It is an inspirational album for both young and old,” Maxhoseni said.

The 25-year-old, whose name Maxhoseni refers to a tribal person who has moved from the Eastern Cape to an urban area to pursue a career in music, started rapping at 14.

He said moving from Cofimvaba in the Transkei to Cape Town was not easy.

“I had to work very hard to prove myself. I decided to record mixtapes to introduce myself to the people and was so surprised at how my music was received.

“I am also sure that my fans will enjoy my latest project as it is different from my previous works. I have used more commercial beats,” he said.
